Synopsis

Set in the rain-soaked street of Tacoma, The Closer is a dark comedy about a hustler with the gift of controlling men with his voice.

Utilizing his unique skill, he’s created a lucrative business of delivering his clients the reputation-ruining, disastrous events they pay for.

We find him at a lonely stage in life, setting off another carefully-crafted, cascading clusterfuck among the rich and power-hungry. Causing crumbling marriages, devastated reputations and spilled blood is nothing new for him, until his own world also unravels before his eyes just as he finally finds someone to love.

Everything is great for him, until it isn’t.

Meet the Writer and Director

Joseph James Lara

Z Wave filmmaker Joseph James Lara made his first film at the age of 9, using his family’s DSLR camera and Legos. By 2022, at the age of twenty, he’d won a prestigious student Emmy Production Award for his sci-fi short, SECTOR 14 while graduating from a top-20 film school.

Raised on video games and known for his dynamic visual style, Joseph could produce and edit sophisticated action shorts before he could legally drive. Born to a family of Hispanic historians and educators, he balances out his hyperkinetic visual sense with carefully drawn portrayals of flawed, human characters, crafting tales that are eminently fresh while exploring themes as old as time.

Fond of exploring tales of corruption and abuse of power, he skillfully drives his viewers through velvet underworlds of suburban hypocrites, masked politicians and double crossing friends. Hard- working and extremely prolific, Lara represents a new filmic vision for the 21st century: an edgy directing style, lush visual filmscapes and sophisticated VFX on shoestring budgets. When he’s not making films, he’s making films.”
